Chapter 2

In this chapter, it was all about explaining what PR is and what it does. Essentially, what public relations is is keeping up good relations with anyone that is involved with a certain organization or human environment, whether that be on a same scale or large one. Corporations have PR branches as well as mom and pop shops around your local town.

PR is also damage control. What I thought was interesting was whenever the book made the analogy of PR being like fire prevention. If there is a problem or a "fire" they already have a solution as of how to fix it. They don't go into a problem not having a plan of how to get out of it. I like the strategies that this chapter used, especially the acronyms. the RACE or the SMARTS. Each of these acronyms is dealing with setting goals and how to go about achieving those goals in the correct way. Everything is about keeping a good and positive behavior between two groups of people. And these steps are ways of how to keep everyone satisfied.

Research was something that this chapter really stressed on. I think that it is a very good place to start, especially since you can't fully understand the problem and reach your goal you have set for your company if you haven't fully researched and found out why it is that this person responds in this way. I really liked the so much emphasis was placed on the topic of research.

And the last thing that really stuck out to me that I personally think is the most important part of any type of business is communication. Not only having good communication but being able to back up what you are saying. Good and positive communication between your key stakeholders can ensure you that you will keep everyone pleased.

This chapter pointed out the basics on PR and how to start going about solving problems and setting goals to achieve individually and as a company all together.
